Fancy stepping behind the bar? At The Modern Alchemist, in the heart of Saint-Gilles, we share our craft for the length of a workshop: shaker in hand, you’ll learn to build, balance and serve your own cocktails, in the warm, unpretentious atmosphere of our bar.

Our formats

  • Cocktail workshop — the essentials (balance, measuring, presentation), then you make and taste your own creations. Rum, whisky, gin, mezcal… we start from what you like. Perfect for beginners.
  • Rum masterclass — our house specialty, for the curious: a guided tasting through styles and terroirs (agricole, Jamaica, Haiti…) across our 150+ rums. Something no other Brussels bar offers at this level.
  • Bespoke — want a 100% gin session, or a specific theme? Tell us and we’ll tailor the recipes.

Our most popular format

Cocktail workshop — €60 per person, incl. VAT (minimum 4 participants billed).

  • A welcome cocktail while everyone arrives, plus a run-through of how the session works.
  • 3 bar techniques explained and practised.
  • 3 cocktails you build and taste.
  • A few tapas to go with them.
  • The session’s recipes to take home.

Rum masterclass and bespoke formats: on request.

For any occasion

A hen or stag party, a birthday, a night out with friends, or an original gift idea: a cocktail workshop is a convivial activity that always lands. You’ll leave with recipes to make again at home, and good memories.

When? Our time slots

Our workshops take place during the day, outside bar service hours:

  • Monday to Saturday — daytime, with the session ending before 6pm, when the bar opens.
  • Sunday — all day, the bar is closed to the public.

What about evenings? From 6pm the bar is open to its guests, so we can’t run a workshop alongside service. An evening session is still possible with a full private hire of the bar — get in touch and we’ll put together a tailored quote.

Format & group size

  • Duration — allow 1.5 to 2 hours, hosted by our team.
  • Group — from 2 people, with no fixed maximum: tell us how many you are and we’ll adapt the format.
  • Booking — required, at our Saint-Gilles bar.
  • Price — €60 per person incl. VAT for the cocktail workshop, minimum 4 participants billed. Rum masterclass and bespoke formats: on request.
  • Every guest leaves with the session’s recipes.
