50th anniversary of Black Tot Day

Today, we are celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Black Tot Day!

Fifty years ago, the practice of daily tot (rum ration) in the British Royal Navy stopped. This 300-year-old tradition ended when the last tot was served on Royal Navy ship in July 1970, this day is known as Black Tot Day.

In 1655 rum was preferred to beer as a daily ration for sailor because it was easier to store, but in 1970 they decided that the rum issue was no longer compatible with the complex and delicate machinery operation that sailor had to do.

This weekend to honor this tradition, we’ll make some special drink with Black Tot Rum, a nice blended rum similarly made to the tot that sailors used to drink!

Come and enjoy rum history by grabbing a Black Tot drink at the bar 🙂
